Calendula spp. NEW
Horticultural collection
Garden Organic
Warwickshire
Description
The collection currently consists of seed for 24 accessions across 15 taxa, which range from the well-known pot marigold (Calendula officinalis) to the rare Calendula suffruticosa subsp. maritima, which has been listed as Critically Endangered by The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Much of this seed originated from international gene banks and collected from sites around the world. The collection is being maintained at Garden Organic’s HQ at Ryton, and is actively conserved as part of the Heritage Seed Library operations through regular seed regeneration. The site is also home to Garden Organic’s organic demonstration garden.
