Visit to Glen Trothy
Visit to Glen Trothy by kind invitation of Sara Herbert.
Please book by Friday 7th June.
A young garden where Ben Herbert began planting a small arboretum 25 years ago. Clearings have been made in the arboretum to accommodate species rhododendrons, acers and other specimen trees. There is a walled garden which has been renovated over the last 12 years and now contains blue and white herbaceous borders surrounding a swimming pool, a vegetable garden and a rose garden (which hopefully will be in full bloom). There is also a small deciduous shrub border on the edge of woodland and a further bluebell wood in which several magnolias and cornus are planted.
Directions: From Abergavenny. Take the B4521 towards Ross on Wye/Skenfrith. Go through the village of Llanvetherine and as you are emerging you will go over a stone bridge on a corner. Immediately after the bridge is a cottage with a high stone wall surrounding it. Turn left here - it is signed to Bont. Proceed for ½ mile and then take the first drive way on left with low stone gate posts and black metal fencing. Where the drive forks take the right.
Directions: From Skenfrith on the B4521. After The 1861 pub you will pass the first turning to Bont - please ignore and proceed to the second turning to Bont which will be on your right immediately before a stone cottage with a high stone wall. Then proceed as above.
