AGM and talk - Plant Exploration in Northern Vietnam

The AGM will be followed by a talk by Andrew Luke on expeditions with his uncle . Richard Baines. Richard is curator of Logan Botanic Garden.  Richard is ex Kew and head  gardener at Wrest Park. The talk will cover their Plant Explorations into Northern Vietnam - a Plantsman's Paradise.

Andrew's talk will cover where some of the plants in our gardens originate, what an expedition involves, and how plants are named. A book entitled Plant Explorer, A plantsman's travels in northern Vietnam, provides an account of 3 collaborative expeditions to North Vietnam on which Richard was the representative of the Royal Botanic Gardens of Edinburgh (RBGE), which include Logan. The expeditions took place between 2014 and 2019 and involved representatives from the UK, USA, Canada and Vietnam. The book was produced by the RBGE as part of its commitment to the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation. This is an ambitious, sixteen-target international plan to support habitats, plants and our understanding of their potential.
