Private garden visit ASHERNE HOUSE
By kind permission of Richard and Louise Newman.
This is a mature woodland garden on an almost sheer cliff with glimpses of the sea through the trees and always the sound of waves in the background. Amongst the mature trees the Newmans have planted Rhododendrons, Magnolias and an extensive range of Camellias, and planting continues wherever gaps open up. An ambitious new planting at the far end of the property will provide Autumn colour. In a deep valley there is a large group of mature Ferns, all grown by Richard from spores.
In early Spring the garden is carpeted with Snowdrops, Primroses, Hellebores and many different Narcissus varieties. With a huge network of paths to follow, from Camellia walks to stream-side Ferns to Richard’s ‘spiky’ plants on a terrifying vertical cliff, there is always something interesting to see. Both Richard and Louise have put love and effort into developing an interesting informal garden with a unique seaside setting. Louise will give us an introduction to the garden.
