Synonym: Iris ‘Maréchal Ney’

Description:
Bred in 1930 by Edward Bruce Williamson (1877-1933) USA and cited in 'Award Iris Nurseries Kelway & Son 1949-50' cat. as recipient of an RHS Award of Merit in 1942. J. Parry in Irises' 2004 writes that 'Maréchal ( 'Mareschal') Ney', was named after a gallant French military commander from Napoleon's 1812 Ill-fated Russian campaign. Parry further cites this cultivar as one of the reddish varieties valued by Vita Sackville-West and mentioned in her book of 1951 titled In Your Garden.
