Symphyotrichum novi-belgii ‘Sam Banham’
Description:
Submitted by Barr to the 1925 RHS Wisley trial of new cultivars of Perennial Asters, it was described as reaching 5 1/2 feet with single flowers 2 inches in size with a yellow disc, white petals later tinged lilac. It was one of 21 cultivars sent to the US in 1921 by the Hon. Vicary Gibbs of Aldenham House Gardens, Elstree Herts which is described as renowned for Michaelmas daisies with ‘all the best varieties being grown, and new ones raised annually in large numbers.’ (Gothein, 1928).
